Special Processes
Farmers’ Rice Cooperative is able to apply special processes to the standard rice we sell in order to create additional value and bring diverse products to the market.
Musenmai Process
This is a special water polishing process that allows for non-wash cooking. When the musenmai process is applied to milled rice, it polishes and removes much of the surface starch on the kernels which allows the consumer to cook the rice without first washing it. The rice will look cleaner and shinier after going through the Musenmai Process.
Current Brands available as Musenmai:
Quick&Easy Brown Rice
Traditionally, brown rice takes longer to cook than milled rice. This is due to additional time required for the water to penetrate the outer bran layer to cook the kernel inside. We have developed a process to scarify the bran layer allowing the water to penetrate more easily, thus reducing the cooking time to nearly that of regular milled white rice. Now the consumer has the added benefit of quick cooking along with the nutritional benefits of brown rice.

Brown Rice
Brown rice has added health benefits over white rice. Like white rice it is gluten free, but has the advantage of retaining the bran layer giving it more fiber and remaining whole grain. High fiber, whole grain foods have been shown to have very positive health effects. The brown rice of Farmers’ Rice Cooperative is specially selected medium grain which has a slightly nutty flavor, and softer texture than traditional long grain brown rice.
Current Brands available as Brown:
Edible Oil Coated (Mediterranean Style)
Primarily preferred in the Middle East regions, milled rice is lightly coated with an edible mineral oil. The purpose of the mineral oil is to provide a higher sheen on the uncooked rice; additional washing is necessary prior to cooking in order to not distract from the taste of the rice.
Current Brands available as edible oil coated:
Nitrogen Flush
Using special materials that have a high oxygen barrier, FRC is able to nitrogen flush certain packaging styles in order to maintain the freshness and increase the shelf life of the rice inside. Primarily used for specially processed brown rice, the same treatment can also be applied to all rice types in order to provide an added layer of protection when storing in less than optimal environments.
